We recognize that the province-wide teacher strike has created disruption and uncertainty across Alberta. For many of your friends, family members, and neighbours in the traditional public school system, this is a stressful time of closed schools and cancelled classes.
We are writing to assure every student and parent in the Ignite community that our learning environment remains stable, predictable, and fully operational. Our commitment to providing uninterrupted, high-quality, accredited education is absolute, and we are moving forward with all courses and programs as scheduled.
The Stability of Your Learning Journey
The stability you experience at Ignite is not accidental—it’s built into our foundation as a fully-accredited, non-profit independent school with an established online model.
- Our Teachers Are Here: Our team of Alberta-certified teachers remains dedicated to delivering their classes, providing one-on-one support, and ensuring the continuity of your child’s education.
- Programs of Study: Every course taught at Ignite continues to adhere strictly to the Alberta Programs of Study. Your student is earning valid, accredited credits, and their learning remains completely on track.
- Personalized Progress: Our focus on igniting the natural curiosity and individual strengths of each student means we can maintain the personalized, flexible, and supportive learning environment you chose us for.
A Note for High School Students and Dual Enrollment
If you have friends or family members whose high school credits are now at risk due to the strike, we want you to know that Ignite may be able to help them.
The provincial government has temporarily lifted the 10-credit per year limit on non-primary distance education. This is a critical opportunity:
- Public School Students: Students enrolled in a public system can now enroll in individual courses with an accredited independent school, like Ignite, to ensure they keep earning necessary credits without interrupting their enrolment at their primary school.
- Continuing Momentum: For students in Grades 10–12 who are worried about university admission requirements or graduation timelines, this option allows them to maintain their momentum during the public school closure.
We encourage you to share the stability and quality of the Ignite experience with any family currently facing disruption.
Our Shared Value in the System
In this time of debate about the education system, it’s important to remember why independent schools like ours exist and thrive. We are a crucial part of the diverse education landscape in Alberta:
- Accountability: As a publicly-funded, accredited school, we meet all of the accountability and quality standards set by the province, ensuring our programs are robust and effective.
- Fiscal Responsibility: By receiving 70% of the public school per-student funding rate, we provide an accredited education that costs taxpayers less for every child enrolled at Ignite, easing the financial and enrollment pressures on the public system.
Thank you for being a committed member of the Ignite Centre for eLearning community. We are proud to continue serving you with stability and excellence.
