Literacy Summary

Grade four students at Ignite Centre for eLearning completed the CC3 literacy screener in September and June, assessing their foundational literacy skills in grapheme-phoneme correspondence and word recognition. Some students were categorized as at-risk or borderline according to provincial norms. We prioritize the development of strong literacy skills, using the screener results to provide tailored support and ensure ongoing growth.

Ignite teachers provided support through small group instruction and one-on-one intervention, helping students strengthen their skills. Students actively participated in word study sessions, where they learned common patterns. Moreover, they developed strategies for breaking down multisyllabic words, making them easier to understand. Students also had the chance to enhance their fluency through activities like oral reading and engaging in reader’s theatre. When the CC3 assessment was conducted again in June, there was notable growth in students’ ability to decode words.

Numeracy Summary

In grade four at the Ignite Centre, students took part in the provincial numeracy assessment, a comprehensive evaluation that consisted of multiple subtests. This assessment aimed to gauge their foundational numeracy skills, covering important concepts like counting principles, representing and comparing numbers, recognizing mathematical relationships, and math fact fluency. The subtests were designed to challenge students within time constraints, providing a fair and structured environment to showcase their abilities.

While our students were not classified as at-risk, the provincial reports identified areas for improvement. Some students struggled with addition calculations. At the Ignite Centre, we provided small group instruction and personalized intervention to reinforce foundational skills. Through daily math review, partner games, and immediate feedback, students showed growth in almost every subtest when retested in June.
